As a mom, mentor and life coach, Ms. Williams believes strongly in “teaching our girls to value their pearls.” She has mentored hundreds in overcoming life’s challenges through appreciation and acceptance of their own value, their own self-worth and is the author of several teaching manuals, Biblical Principles to Money Management; Three Steps to True Forgiveness- Repentance, Reconciliation, and Restoration; and A Girl and Her Pearls for middle school through college age girls.
Ms. Williams’s message is simply and eloquently conveyed in her latest manual, A Girl and Her Pearls - Teaching Our Girls to Value Their Pearls today will have an impact tomorrow on how they choose to live.
Ms. Williams daughter Lakeshia reflects this creed. As a single mom, she began to teach her daughter at an early age the “pearls” of life including integrity, honesty, purity, charity, and that they are more value than material possessions. She used a pearl to introduce each character trait to her daughter. Today her only daughter (now a high school teacher) exemplifies the success of this approach and Ms. Williams works with her daughter and others to introduce many more girls to this illustrative and successful teaching.
Positive results with not only her daughter Lakeshia but in the lives of those girls that have successfully completed and lived out the pearl principles have come because of Ms. Williams’ passionate vision to see our girls succeed and be productive individuals.

Most girls have ideas, dreams, aspirations about their life, but most don’t include being pregnant and unmarried at age 17. Success stories and sad stories can be found about what occurs in the lives of un-wed teenage moms. Yet, it’s more difficult to find much on how to become one of the success stories. What about stories that tell about those who learned that the best way to overcome was to change what they value, what they hold dear, what they think is beautiful and important?
Over 30 years ago that’s what happened with Angela M. Williams. She found herself pregnant and unmarried at age 17. She used stumbling blocks and they turned into stepping stones. As her daughter got a little older she wanted her daughter to understand that life is not all about “stuff,” and it is not about whether that boy likes you or you’re the popular girl in school. She decided to affect the change in her daughter’s life that would help her succeed. Beginning with the pearls she had been given and held onto for years, Angela decided to use something she held dear to teach her daughter what she should value in life.
After spending years cultivating the development of self-love, love for others, honesty, integrity, purity, and modesty in her daughter, it was time to send her to college. Many of us know the stories of wild college students, some have lived them. Yet, when Angela got a call from her daughter in college it wasn’t can you bail me out of jail or the school is kicking me out, it was an S.O.S. for mom if you could explain the pearls of life to her college friends so they could share in the productivity, wholeness and success that LaKeshia had been enjoying for several years from her mother’s teachings.
When LaKeshia graduated college to become a teacher, one of her constant roles has been introducing school staff, administrators and girls to her mother’s “pearls” and having Angela come into the schools to teach more girls how to value their pearls.
At the same time Angela has been developing her program and her successes are numerous, having garnered praise from Professional Speakers Network founder Dr. Tina Dupree and Dr. Bettye Knighton, program director for the R.A.I.N. – Rising Above Inner-City Norm and Neglect, and Stacey Robinson with the Youth Violence Prevention Program.
Today Angela’s dream is enlarging. With her updated materials and flexible program formats her pearls program can be delivered to girls in a variety of settings.
With A Girl and Her Pearls Angela has initiated and maintains a successful approach to helping girls and young ladies to change how they think, what they value in order to become strong, confident, and successful women.
“I wanted to say a couple of things. First of all, it is wonderful having you at our center. You are a breath of fresh air and you represent who we all want to be, not just our young ladies but all of us. You set an amazing example of perseverance and beauty for all of us to admire and follow. I would love to get some feedback from you on your experience with working with us. We want great things for all of our youth and the only way, I believe, to go from good to great is getting feedback from the people who are leaders in the programs.”
